CHAPTER TWO
When Allie woke in the morning, Jacob was sitting beside her with a plate of steaming pancakes, scrambled eggs, and turkey bacon. He’d set a glass of water and a bottle of aspirin on the bedside table.
He leaned down and kissed Allie on the forehead. “How are you feeling today?” he asked gently.
She groaned. “I feel like I got hit in the head with a sledgehammer,” she looked up at him. “Did I really almost finish a bottle of wine myself or am I imagining that?”
“No, you did.” he laughed, reaching over to tuck the strand of hair that fell in her face, behind her ear. After she sat up, leaning against the headboard, he handed her the breakfast he’d made.
She took it. “Thank you, Jake.” she wondered if he’d thought about what she’d suggested last night. She wanted to ask but didn’t want to seem eager. She waited, taking small bites, hoping he’d bring it up himself.
Eventually, he did. “I’m going to go down and finish cleaning up the dishes from cooking. When you’re finished eating, I want you to shower and then meet me in the living room in your robe. We can finish talking about the conversation we started last night.” he left her alone in the room to finish eating.
She sat, dumbfounded, for a moment. Did he just tell her what to do? And what to wear? This was a good sign, right? That he was actually thinking about doing this? She breathed a sigh of relief. She could hear him moving about in the kitchen, the water turning on and off, pans clanking in the sink. She ate until she was full, which didn’t take much, given her anticipation, and shed her clothes. Allie showered, hurrying through the motions of washing her hair, running a soapy loofah over her body. She wanted to hear what he had to say about domestic discipline, despite how nervous she was.
He thought while he washed about how things were going to change, and he had high hopes. He loved Allie, God knew, more than anything in the world. But she was difficult at times, to say the least. He had always taken their fights (her fits) in stride, thinking that even the happiest couples had squabbles from time to time. After reading the material he had, he was beginning to see that things didn’t have to be that way. He finished the dishes and sat in the living room with his note pad, looking over the things he’d jotted down, when he heard her coming down the hall. Looking up, he caught sight of his beautiful fiancé.
She smiled shyly, carrying her plate and empty glass of water. She scraped the food off her plate and rinsed it off, setting it and the glass in the sink before coming to sit beside Jacob on the couch. Nervously, she twirled a piece of wet hair in her fingers.
He cleared his throat. “I think that we should go ahead with domestic discipline.” he said, hoping he sounded more confident than he felt.
Allie’s head snapped up, her eyes sparkling. “You do?” she whispered.
He nodded. “Yeah. But there’s a lot of things we need to talk about and clarify first.”
“Okay,”
Jacob reached over and took her hand. “I think we should start with what we both expect from this. There will be a set of general rules, which we will come up with together, and you will agree upon before they will be enforced. I am hoping that this is going to bring us closer, help us open up to each other, and make you feel secure and safe in our relationship. What are you expecting out of this?”
Allie could barely think straight. This was really happening. She couldn’t believe that Jake had done so much research, and her chest felt tight. She felt her eyes welling with tears but she willed them away as she realized how lucky she was to have this man who had gone to such great lengths to understand what she needed. “I hope that I can become more respectful and think before I act or speak. I want to assume more responsibility over myself and my decisions. I haven’t been acting like I should. I want to .. I want to be more submissive toward you.” the last part was really hard to get out, and she wondered how she managed to even bring this up to him. Then she remembered the wine.
He smiled. “I think we’re off to a great start,” he admitted. “Let’s talk about some ground rules. Go get a piece of computer paper, and a pen, please.”
She rose from the couch and went to the computer desk, gathering the materials and bringing them back to where she’d been sitting. She handed them to him.
“Will you also please hand me a magazine from the rack beside you?”
She reached over the side of the couch to the magazine rack, and grabbed one, handing it to him.
“Okay. I’m going to write them out as we go. I read about something called the four D’s, have you heard of them?” he asked.
Allie nodded, flushing slightly. She couldn’t believe he’d heard of them!
“I thought those would be a good place to start.” he suggested.
She agreed, watching as he started to write.
Upon entering this agreement of Domestic Discipline, Allison Carter (soon to be Allison Monroe) has previously agreed to be punished for any behavior that falls under the following categories:
-Disrespect
-Disobedience
-Dishonesty
-Dangerous Behavior
He set the pen down beside him and looked at her. “Is there anything else you feel that should be on this list?” he asked.
She shook her head. “No, I can’t think of anything.”
Jacob agreed. “I figure everything pretty much falls under one of those categories. We can always add to the rules at a later date.” He picked up the pen and continued writing near the bottom of the page.
If Allison fails to adhere to these rules, there will be consequences, to be decided on by Jacob Monroe. These rules have been agreed upon by both parties, as signed below.
After signing his own name, he handed the paper and pen to Allie, and she scrawled her name next to his.
“Now, we should discuss punishments…” Jake trailed off. This was the part that was going to be hardest for him. He wanted all the good things that this change in their relationship could bring them. However, he knew that it would mean being stern with Allie at times, and punishing her. This would be hard for him to do. In the past, he’d always been the one to soothe her tears, could he really be the one to cause them?
She swallowed hard. This was so embarrassing! She could feel her face growing a deep, hot red, and she looked away quickly. “Okay. What kind of punishment are you thinking of using?” she asked quietly.
“I’m going to spank you. I might also use corner time, and depending on the infraction, there could be other things, too. Spanking is going to be the main one, though.” he said decisively.
Allie nodded, unable to speak.
“I want you to know, that this is not going to be a playful thing, Al. When you’re getting punished, I’m going to take it very seriously. You don’t get to say ‘just kidding, I don’t want this.’ I’m going to spank you until I feel that you’ve learned the lesson at hand. Do you understand that?” he asked, his voice solemn and firm.
“Yes sir,” she murmured instinctively. When she’d realized that the word ‘sir’ had actually come out of her mouth, her hand flew up and clamped over her lips, her eyes wide. Her face flushed again and she couldn’t help thinking this had been the most embarrassing 24 hours of her life.
He smiled lightly. “Don’t be embarrassed,” he said, as if he could read her mind. “I like the sound of that. I dont want you to think that just because I'm in charge now, that you can't come to me with your feelings or concerns. I will always listen to what you have to say, and it will always be taken into consideration."
She nodded. "Thank you," she said, for much more than she could have explained at that moment.
"Of course,"
“Are you going to spank me until I cry?” she squeaked.
“I imagine sometimes I will, yeah.” Jacob answered. He caught her eye, and was mesmerized. He couldn’t fathom what he’d done to deserve a woman like Allie, or how much trust she must have in him to have even suggested this. He reached out and touched her cheek gently. “I love you Allison,” he said quietly.
They shared a passionate kiss, and when they came up for air, Allie looked at him expectantly.
“Am I going to be punished for the things I said the other night?” her voice shook as she spoke. She was nervous as hell, but knew that what she’d done was completely wrong. After all, it was the whole reason she’d brought domestic discipline up at all. The fight was a breaking point for her, the moment when she realized she was out of control and needed to be reigned in.
Jacob hadn’t expected this. They’d made up from the fight, in his mind, and he’d already forgiven her for the things she’d said. They didn’t have this agreement at the time of the fight, and he didn’t think it would be right to punish her for something that happened before they’d decided to partake in domestic discipline. Still, there was something in Allie’s voice that said maybe she needed this. He asked, “Do you think that you should be?”
Her eyes darted away, and she suddenly seemed meek and shy. “I don’t know,” she murmured.
Now Jacob had a decision to make. Should he punish her? He couldn’t tell if that’s what Allie wanted, and if it were up to him, (which it was supposed to be now, right?) he wouldn’t punish her for something that’d happened before they’d agreed to living this lifestyle. He bent and brushed his lips across her forehead. “I’m not going to be punish you, this time, because the rules weren’t in place when the fight happened. But I want you to keep in mind that the situation could have been handled differently, and did not have to result in yelling and screaming. It will not happen in the future, and if it does, it will not be tolerated.”
Allie deflated beside him, but she nodded. “Okay,” she knew that he was in charge now, and it was ultimately his decision. She couldn’t help but feeling, though, that being punished would absolve the guilt she’d been feeling about what had happened between them. She felt let down, wondered if he’d ever go through with a punishment, or if anything would ever be deemed punishable. Was he strong enough to do this? Was she?

CHAPTER ONE
Allie, wrapped in a blanket with her laptop sitting in her lap, had stayed home from work. She’d spent the whole day reading and researching, only taking breaks to pee and have something for lunch. She’d spent the last two hours trying to figure out how exactly she was going to start this conversation with Jacob, and nursing a bottle of wine.
They’d had a terrible fight the night before, and they both said some things they wished they could take back, but Allie had been particularly nasty. Jacob had called her spoiled, and Allie had sworn at him, telling him that she didn’t need him and would be just as happy without him in her life.
As soon as she’d said it, she regretted it, but then she looked at Jacob. His face twisted in anger, but just before that, pain. His eyebrows knotted above his eyes, almost hiding the defeat in them. She’d wanted to say something to make it better, wanted to take it back, but knew she couldn’t. He grabbed a pillow from the bed and stormed to the living room, and they hadn’t spoken since.
Remembering, Allie took another large gulp from the wine bottle, and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. She scoured thousands of web pages on how to do what she was about to do. She wanted to make things right between her and Jacob, she wanted him to know that she didn’t mean a thing she’d said the night before, and that she needed him more than anything. She was terrified of losing him.
Finally, the sound of his keys in the lock startled Allie to reality. She snapped the laptop shut and put it on the end table beside the couch.
He pushed the door open, and almost started laughing at the sight of his fiancé. Her hair was a mess, a half empty bottle of wine sat beside her, and she was wearing the same clothes she’d gone to bed in the previous night. The only thing that stopped him was the look on her face, like she’d just seen a ghost. He didn’t say a thing, still slightly perturbed over their fight the night before. Jacob went to the kitchen, draped his coat over the back of a barstool, and went to the fridge. When he made his way back to the living room, Allie was drinking from the bottle of wine.
“I’m guessing you didn’t work today,” he said, sitting in the arm chair a few feet away.
She shook her head. She was starting to feel the effects of the wine, for sure. Digging deep inside herself for the courage to begin speaking, she lifted her eyes to meet his.
“Oh Jake, I’m so sorry for the things I said last night, I really didn’t mean them.” her sparkling blue eyes filled with tears but she pushed on. “I do need you. More than anything in the world, and if I didn’t have you … I’d … I’d be absolutely lost!”
Jacob came and sat beside her now, pulling her into his arms. “It’s okay, sweetheart. I know you didn’t mean it.”
Allie pulled back a little, shaking her head and sniffling. “No, it’s not okay.” she paused here, not knowing how to continue. Her stomach was in knots, fearing that he’d run as soon as she spilled her guts. “I did a lot of reading today, about a thing called Domestic Discipline, and I think that it’s something that would do a lot of good for our relationship.”
His eyebrow raised. “What, exactly, is domestic discipline?” he wanted to know.
She took another long drink of her wine before answering. “Well, the man is the head of the household, and he holds the final say. They come up with rules and talk about behaviors that need to be fixed, and then he enforces them. If she doesn’t do what she’s expected or told to do, then she gets punished.” she felt all the air empty from her lungs and waiting for his response, she wasn’t sure if she could refill them on her own. Allie pictured him looking at her in disgust and asking what kind of person would live that way? Why couldn’t she just act right on her own? Her heart felt like someone had clamped an iron fist around it, and was squeezing the life from her.
Instead of running off in horror or disgust, he looked at her with interest. “What do you mean, punished?” he asked.
This was going to be the hardest part, actually saying the word. Spanking. Allie was too embarrassed to meet his eye, and instead reached again for the wine bottle. After a few swigs, she continued. “Well, most couples use spanking,” the word came out in barely a whisper “But some use other forms of punishment, too, I guess. Like making the wife stand in the corner, write lines, restricting her use of the tv or computer. Whatever the head of house decides.” She stared down at the floor for a long while, too afraid to look at him for his reaction. She dug her toes into the carpet, sipping from the wine.
He didn’t know what to think. Spank his fiancé? It seemed kind of barbaric, to him. He’d been taught his whole life to never lay his hand on a woman. They were meant to be cherished, catered to. He couldn’t quite wrap his mind around it. He cleared his throat. “So you think that this domestic discipline could benefit us?” he asked.
She nodded. “Yeah.”
“Why?”
Allie swallowed hard. She knew that there were going to be a lot of questions to answer, but now that she was facing them, she didn’t know what to say. She tried to piece together words in her mind to make it sound exactly as she was thinking it. “Because you deserve to be respected, and I have a lot of unfavorable behaviors.” she said quietly. “I want to change,” she added, so meekly he almost didn’t hear her.
It was a lot to digest, and Jacob didn’t know how to react. As Allie reached for the wine bottle again, he instinctively picked it up and moved it away from her. “I don’t think you need any more of that,” he told her.
She hung her head, trying to imagine all the horrible things he was thinking about her. She wanted to say more, to ask what he thought, to wonder aloud if he thought she was losing her mind. Instead, she sat quietly, waiting in the torturous silence for him to say anything.
“I have to think about this, Al.” Jacob said quietly. His hand found hers and their fingers laced together. “It’s a lot to take in.”
Allie nodded. “Yeah, I mean, of course.” she still couldn’t bring herself to look at him. “You don’t…think I’m crazy, do you?” she managed, barely audible.
He used his finger to lift her chin, forcing her to meet his eye. “I know you’re crazy,” he smiled softly. “But I think you might be on to something. I want to read about it on my own, and do some thinking. We’ll talk about it again, okay?” he promised, leaning over to kiss her.
“Okay,” she whispered. Leaning against his shoulder, she nuzzled her head against him. “I’m tired.”
He laughed a little, looking at the now three quarters empty bottle of wine. “I can’t imagine why. I’ll help you to bed,” he said. He helped her off the couch, and into their bedroom. He tucked her in, and kissed her forehead. “I love you, Allie.”
“I love you too, Jacob. Think hard about this, okay?” she murmured, already half asleep.
“I promise.”
While Allie snored softly in their bedroom, Jacob sat awake at his computer. He’d stumbled across a community of blogs about domestic discipline. There were some written from the wife’s perspective, others from the husband. The more he read, the more interested he became. From what he read, domestic discipline deepened connections between couples, intensified their intimacy, and strengthened trust. It wasn’t easy, especially at the beginning, but worth the work. He read different websites about common ground rules, and bought a few ebooks. He scanned through them, and jotted down notes and questions and points that he’d need to discuss with Allie as he read. He read some things that he definitely didn’t feel like would be beneficial to them at all. He scoured over pages and pages of writing, taking it all in. All the information was a bit overwhelming, but the gist of what he read was that they needed to figure out what was going to work for them as a couple. There were no stead fast rules about how it all should be done, except that he was going to be in charge. He liked the idea of that.
